Why go

According to the Ministry, the museum is arranged by subject and find group, including an information hall at the entrance, halls for the finds from the fountains and the Terrace Houses, ancient coins, the Cybele cult, the Temple of Artemis, Artemis and imperial cult objects, finds from Çukuriçi Mound, and displays on the Temple of Artemis, the Church of St John, the fortress on Ayasuluk Hill and the Belevi Mausoleum. Objects the Ministry singles out are the Resting Warrior found at the Polio Fountain, a white marble Marcus Aurelius of the 2nd century AD, a Head of Eros, and the Ephesian Artemis. The Ministry's culture portal says the collection numbers about 64,000 items and continues to grow with excavation. It is a separate unit from the ancient city and from the Ephesus Experience Museum, with its own hours.

Getting there

The Ministry gives the address as Atatürk Mahallesi, Uğur Mumcu Sevgi Yolu No 26, Selçuk. It is in the town, unlike the ancient city, which the İzmir provincial directorate puts 3 km away. The Ministry's culture portal describes reaching Selçuk by train from İzmir Basmane, or by İzban to Tepeköy and a transfer. Entrance, ticket-office and parking positions are not published.

Best time to visit

The Ministry names no best season. Its web page and the museum's leaflet give different opening hours, so confirm the closing time before you plan a late visit.

The museum's downloadable leaflet gives separate summer and winter hours, while the Ministry's web page shows a single set (08:30 to 20:00). No source read explains the difference, so check which applies on the day.

Public transport

Per the Ministry's culture portal: train from Basmane Station in İzmir to Selçuk, or İzban to Tepeköy Station with a transfer to Selçuk. Frequencies and journey times are not given.

Accessibility

The Ministry does not publish step-free access, lifts, toilets, baby changing, seating or a stroller policy for this museum; call 0232 892 60 10 to ask. The museum has inner courtyards where architectural and sculptural pieces are shown, according to the culture portal, but the pages read do not say whether they are step-free.

Opening: According to the Ministry's page (read 22 September 2026), the museum is open every day, 08:30 to 20:00, with ticket sales until 19:30, and an audio guide is offered. The museum's own downloadable Ministry leaflet shows different, seasonal hours (1 April to 31 October 08:00 to 19:00; 31 October to 1 April 08:30 to 17:30), so confirm the hours before you go.
Cost: Ticket rules are set by the Ministry; check the price on muze.gov.tr. The Ministry says the Museum Card is valid here for Turkish citizens. Its entrance directive gives free entry to Turkish citizens under 18, to foreign children aged 8 and under (elsewhere the same document says under 8), and to visitors with disabilities.
Best for: Visitors who want to see the objects excavated at Ephesus, including the Artemis statues, alongside a visit to the ruins.
Not ideal for: Visitors who need confirmed lifts, toilets or stroller routes: the Ministry publishes none of these.

Selçuk

Selçuk is a town and district in İzmir province on the Aegean coast, the base for visiting the ancient city of Ephesus. Its own monuments sit around Ayasuluk Hill, where the Basilica of St John stands, and the Ephesus Museum, run by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is in the town.
