Procession of Princes

Fürstenzug

The Procession of Princes (Fürstenzug) is a mural of Meissen porcelain tiles on the outer wall of the Stallhof, Augustusstraße, in Dresden, showing the House of Wettin as a procession of riders.

Why go

The City of Dresden's tourism page says the Fürstenzug, on the outside of the Stallhof by the Schlossplatz, is a 101-metre mural showing the history of Saxony's ruling House of Wettin as a larger-than-life procession of riders. It says Wilhelm Walther applied it to the outer wall of the Langer Gang as a sgraffito between 1872 and 1876 for the 800th anniversary of the Wettin dynasty, and that the quickly fading work was transferred to Meissen porcelain tiles between 1904 and 1907 to protect it from the weather. The page counts 35 margraves, electors and kings and 59 scientists, artists, craftsmen and farmers on more than 24,000 tiles; the Dresden Marketing tourism page gives about 100 metres and 24,000 tiles. Both give the address as Augustusstraße 1. This record is the mural on the street side of the Stallhof, not the Stallhof courtyard or the Residenzschloss.
