Green Vault
Grünes Gewölbe
The Green Vault (Grünes Gewölbe) is the treasury museum of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden in the Residenzschloss in Dresden, shown in two parts, the Historic Green Vault and the New Green Vault.
Why go
The Green Vault is the treasury that August the Strong created from 1723, now shown by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) in the Residenzschloss in two parts: the Historic Green Vault in the restored rooms of the treasury, and the New Green Vault, with selected objects displayed behind glass. The museum's visit page says the Historic Green Vault needs a time-slot ticket and, because of limited capacity, recommends booking it online; the New Green Vault is on the Royal Palace ticket, which covers the palace's museums except the Historic Green Vault, and a combined ticket covers both. The same page says coats and bags must be left in the cloakrooms or lockers, and that private photography allowed in the permanent exhibitions is not allowed in the Historic Green Vault. The SKD's Royal Palace page says that when the palace was almost completely burnt out in February 1945, part of the Historic Green Vault survived. This record is the museum, not the Residenzschloss building.
