Old Masters Picture Gallery
Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister
The Old Masters Picture Gallery (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister) is a picture gallery of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, shown in the Semperbau of the Zwinger on the Theaterplatz in Dresden.
Why go
The Old Masters Picture Gallery belongs to the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD). The gallery's site says it presents its works together with the Sculpture Collection up to 1800 in the extensively renovated Semperbau am Zwinger, and that most of the principal works on display were collected within only five decades. The SKD's Zwinger page says Gottfried Semper began the Semperbau on the Elbe side of the Zwinger in 1855, and that it still houses the gallery. The SKD's 'Ticket Zwinger' covers the gallery with the Sculpture Collection up to 1800, the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon and the Porcelain Collection, but not special exhibitions, and can be booked online. This record is the museum, not the Zwinger complex (a separate record), not the SKD as a whole and not the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.
