Why go

This record is the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence; the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice is a different museum. Florence's official tourism website says the David was moved here from Piazza della Signoria in the 1870s and replaced there by a copy, and that the gallery also shows Michelangelo's Prisoners, fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Florentine paintings, the plaster casts of the Gipsoteca Bartolini and the Museum of Ancient Musical Instruments. The same site reports that the Galleria dell'Accademia and the Bargello Museums now share a single management, with combined tickets such as 'Accademia + Bargello'. Hours, prices and booking rules are set by the museum, so check its own site before you go.
