Palazzo Medici Riccardi
Palazzo Medici Riccardi
Palazzo Medici Riccardi is the fifteenth-century palace of the Medici family on Via Cavour in Florence, open as a museum with the Magi Chapel and also the seat of the Metropolitan City and the Prefecture of Florence.
Why go
This record is the palace and the museum inside it; the palace's site says the building is also the seat of the Città Metropolitana and the Prefecture of Florence and houses two libraries. The same site says Cosimo the Elder commissioned it in 1444 from Michelozzo, that it was the Medici family home until Cosimo I moved the residence to Palazzo della Signoria in 1540, and that it was sold to the Riccardi family in 1659. Its tickets page says the ticket covers the palace with the Magi Chapel and the Gallery of Mirrors, the archaeological route, the Museo dei Marmi and current temporary exhibitions, and that only a limited number of people are let into the Magi Chapel at a time, so visitors may be asked to wait in the courtyard. The site's FAQ says buying in advance is strongly recommended but not compulsory, and that online tickets are not sold for the same day.
