Gallery of the Royal Collections

Galería de las Colecciones Reales

The Gallery of the Royal Collections is a Patrimonio Nacional museum on Calle Bailén in central Madrid, between the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral, showing works from the collections gathered by Spain's monarchs.

Why go

The gallery's welcome page says it shows a selection of the collections gathered by Spain's kings over the last five centuries, now owned by the Spanish State and in the care of Patrimonio Nacional, in chronological order from the end of the Middle Ages, with paintings alongside decorative arts, furniture, books, musical instruments, armour and tapestries. It opened in summer 2023 in a new building set into Madrid's western escarpment beside the Royal Palace; the gallery's building page says the works ran from December 2006 to December 2015. The visit page recommends buying tickets online, notes ticket offices at the Plaza de la Armería and Cuesta de la Vega entrances, and says tickets carry an access time because the gallery has a maximum capacity. A combined ticket with the Royal Palace is listed; the palace is a separate record.
