Why go

Gibralfaro Castle is the fortress on the crest of Mount Gibralfaro above Málaga, run by the Ayuntamiento de Málaga with the Alcazaba on the slope below, which has its own XTOUR record. The city's monument site says the castle was built in the 14th century to house troops and protect the Alcazaba, under Yusuf I (1344-1354), and was finished under Muhammad V, and that its only access was the Coracha, a walled path down to the Alcazaba. The same site says visitors now enter through openings in the barbican on the east side and in a wall on the south front, beside the interpretation centre. That centre has occupied the castle's old powder store since 1998 and presents the castle's life as a garrison and coastal lookout from 1487 to 1925. The site's shared hours and prices page lists a general ticket and a joint ticket for the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle.
