Málaga Cathedral, dedicated to the Incarnation, is the city's Renaissance-era cathedral on Calle Molina Lario, built on the site of its main mosque.

Why go

Málaga Cathedral, the Santa Iglesia Basílica Catedral de la Encarnación on Calle Molina Lario, stands where the city's main mosque stood inside the walled Muslim city. The cathedral's history page says the mosque became the cathedral after the city was conquered in 1487, that the first designs were by Diego de Siloé, that work stalled in the 17th century and resumed in the 18th, that the church opened for worship as it is now in 1768, and that its towers were left unfinished. The cathedral's ticket page says tickets can be bought at the door or online at the same price and include an audio guide, that visitors must dress decorously inside, and that tourist visits are not allowed during the liturgy on Saturdays and Sundays. Its roof-tour page, read on 9 October 2026, says visits to the roofs are suspended because of works on the roof.
