Gunung Leuser National Park
Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser
Gunung Leuser National Park (Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser) is a national park along the Bukit Barisan mountains of northern Sumatra, its northern part in Aceh and its southern part in North Sumatra.
Why go
This record is the national park as a protected area, not Mount Leuser, not the gateway village of Bukit Lawang and not the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra World Heritage property, of which Wikidata records the park as a component. The North Sumatra provincial government's tourism page says the park stretches along the Bukit Barisan range, with its northern part in Aceh and its southern part in North Sumatra. The same page describes Bukit Lawang as a small village at the park's southern side and a gateway to the forest, says a Sumatran orangutan rehabilitation centre was set up there in 1973, and describes Tangkahan as a conservation area in the park. XTOUR states nothing about permits, guides or entry points.
