Why go

The Jesuit Church of St. Francis Xavier stands directly on the Reuss in Lucerne. The church's own site says its foundation stone was laid on 3 December 1666 and that it was consecrated on 29 August 1677, and that it was the school church of the Jesuit grammar school (Jesuitengymnasium) until 1773. The site says it is not a parish church: it belongs to the Canton of Lucerne, which under a 1989 contract makes it available to the Catholic parish community for services, held under the church's prefect and the Collegium Xaverianum of professors from the University of Lucerne's theology faculty. The church and its sacristy can be hired for sacred concerts and some other events, and the site offers an app with a tour of the interior. Lucerne Tourism's page describes it as a Baroque church modelled on the Gesù in Rome and notes its stucco, high altar, organ and treasury. This record is the church, not its organ (Q112976431).
