Katrin Cable Car

Katrin Seilbahn · Katrinseilbahn

The Katrin cable car is a four-seat gondola lift from Bad Ischl up the Katrin to the Katrin Alm, which its operator, Katrin Seilbahn GmbH, says has run since 1959.

Why go

This record is the cable car, with its point at the valley station in Bad Ischl; it is not the Katrin mountain or the nature reserve at the top. Its operator, Katrin Seilbahn GmbH, says the lift has carried residents and guests up to the Katrin Alm in a nature reserve since 1959. The operator's history page (in German, reprinting a 2020 article from the trade journal Internationale Seilbahnrundschau) says the original lift of 1959 was a detachable single-cable lift built under licence from the Swiss firm Oehler, that the old line stopped running in January 1976, and that a new four-seat cabin lift on the same route opened in 1979, reusing the station buildings. Its FAQ says tickets for the ride down can also be bought at the kiosk at the top station, payable by bank card only.
