Kunsthalle Krems
Kunsthalle Krems
The Kunsthalle Krems is an exhibition hall for international contemporary art on the Kunstmeile in Krems an der Donau, in a former 19th-century tobacco factory in Stein.
Why go
This record is the exhibition hall, one of the institutions of the Kunstmeile Krems, whose website is published by Kunstmeile Krems Betriebs GmbH. The Kunstmeile's history page says the artist Wolfgang Denk proposed turning the former Stein tobacco factory into a Kunsthalle in 1990, that the architect Adolf Krischanitz won the 1992 competition with a design integrating the old building, and that the Kunsthalle opened on 31 March 1995 as the first exhibition venue of what is now the Kunstmeile. Its institution page says the focus shifted to international contemporary art and that the interior has permanent works by Eva Schlegel and Peter Kogler.
