State Gallery of Lower Austria
Landesgalerie Niederösterreich
The State Gallery of Lower Austria (Landesgalerie Niederösterreich) is the museum for the art collections of the province of Lower Austria on the Museumsplatz of the Kunstmeile in Krems an der Donau, opened in 2019.
Why go
This record is the museum and its exhibitions, not the Kunsthalle Krems; the gallery's architecture page says the State Gallery on Museumsplatz, the Kunsthalle Krems and the Karikaturmuseum Krems form the centre of the Kunstmeile Krems, whose website is published by Kunstmeile Krems Betriebs GmbH. The same page says the Lower Austrian state government approved a museum for the State Collections in Krems in April 2014, that marte.marte architects won the 2015 competition with an upward-spiralling monolith, that the wooden pilings of a medieval harbour were found during construction, and that the museum opened in May 2019 with five exhibitions. Its institution page says the programme shows the province's art treasures, the work of local artists and international art, and that a multimedia guide app can be downloaded or a device borrowed at the ticket desk.
