Why go

The Kunstmuseum St.Gallen's main venue is the neoclassical museum building in the Stadtpark at Museumstrasse 32, designed by Johann Christoph Kunkler and opened on 8 October 1877, according to the museum's history page. The museum says it shows its collection of paintings and sculptures from the late Middle Ages to the present in a permanent exhibition there, alongside temporary exhibitions, and that it runs a second venue, the Lokremise at Grünbergstrasse 7, as a laboratory for contemporary art. Its history page says the museum grew out of the St. Gallen Kunstverein founded in 1827 and that since 2012 the Stiftung Kunstmuseum St.Gallen has been carried by the Kunstverein and the Stiftung St.Galler Museen together with the city and the Ortsbürgergemeinde. This record is the museum at its Stadtpark building; the Lokremise is a separate site elsewhere in the city and is not this map point. It is not the collection item (Q56219208) or the 'open art museum' (Q27488983).
