Textilmuseum St.Gallen

The Textilmuseum St.Gallen is a museum of textiles and embroidery at Vadianstrasse 2 in St. Gallen, in a building of 1886 known as the Palazzo Rosso.

Why go

The Textilmuseum St.Gallen at Vadianstrasse 2 holds fabrics and embroideries from around the world, pattern books, design drawings and photographs that trace the Swiss textile industry, according to its own site, which says it shows a permanent exhibition on the textile history of eastern Switzerland and two to three temporary exhibitions a year. The site says the museum goes back to the Industrie- und Gewerbemuseum founded in 1878, which opened in 1886 in a building designed by the architect Gustav Gull and called the Palazzo Rosso for its red brick facade, and that it has been run since 2012 by the Verein Textilmuseum in close cooperation with the Stiftung Textilmuseum. The museum also has a textile library. Its site says the museum will close from 1 March 2027 for a comprehensive renovation. This record is the museum, not its collection item (Q1675727), its building item (Q56218872) or the textile museum in Niederbüren (Q27485343).
