Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

The Museo Reina Sofía is Spain's national museum of modern and contemporary art, with its main site in the Sabatini and Nouvel buildings on Calle Santa Isabel and Ronda de Atocha in central Madrid.

Why go

The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía brings together the Spanish state's collections of modern and contemporary art; its visit page says the permanent collection has almost 25,000 pieces from the last decades of the nineteenth century to the present, centred on Spanish art with international work and an emphasis on Latin America. The main site has two access points, the Sabatini Building and the Nouvel Building, and the museum recommends entering by the Nouvel Building (Ronda de Atocha 2) if you have bought your ticket online; it also says a ticket is needed during free-admission hours and can be booked online. The visit page says suitcases and large backpacks are not admitted. The museum also runs two exhibition spaces inside El Retiro Park, the Palacio de Cristal and the Palacio de Velázquez; they are separate places, not this record.
