Museum of Cham Sculpture

Bảo tàng Nghệ thuật Điêu khắc Chăm Đà Nẵng

The Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture is a museum of Champa stone sculpture at 2 Tháng 9 Street in central Da Nang, in a building first completed in 1916.

Why go

The Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture holds sculpture of the Champa kingdom gathered from Da Nang, Quảng Nam and neighbouring provinces, first assembled as 'The Garden of Tourane'. The city's tourism promotion centre says the first building, designed by the French architects Delaval and Auclair on Henri Parmentier's proposal to use features of Champa temples, was built in 1915–1916 and opened in 1919, and that the galleries are named for the areas the pieces came from, among them Trà Kiệu, Mỹ Sơn and Đồng Dương. Vietnam's national tourism site dates the collection from the 5th to the 15th century. The tourism centre's museum page (dated 2020) says guided tours are given to groups of five or more in Vietnamese, English and French, that groups with their own private guide or wanting an English- or French-speaking guide should contact the museum at least three days ahead, and that an audio guide is reached through the museum's wifi. The record is the museum, not the Cham temple sites its collection comes from. Opening days and fees are set by the museum and are not repeated here.
