Why go

Museum Tinguely is a museum on the bank of the Rhine in Basel, opened in 1996 in a building by the Ticino architect Mario Botta and devoted to the Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925 to 1991). The museum says its collection of 218 kinetic sculptures, more than half of them on show and most in working order, covers four decades of his work, from early reliefs to the machine sculptures of the 1980s, and that it also holds temporary exhibitions with artists Tinguely knew and contemporary artists. Its event listings mark some guided tours as needing no booking and others as needing registration in advance. The building occupies the eastern part of the Solitude Park. It is not the Espace Jean Tinguely in Fribourg.
