Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary
Thánh địa Mỹ Sơn
Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary is a site of Cham temple towers in a closed valley in Thu Bồn commune, Đà Nẵng city, with more than 70 structures built from the 4th to the 13th century, according to its management board.
Why go
The Mỹ Sơn management board says the sanctuary holds more than 70 temple-tower structures of the Champa civilisation built over nine centuries, from the 4th to the 13th, and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site on 4 December 1999. The board says time and war badly damaged the site. Its rules say everyone must buy a ticket and show it before entering, that no vehicles may enter the relic area, and that climbing or writing on the towers is forbidden. Its 2020 visitor guide says the entry ticket covers the Mỹ Sơn Museum, the electric shuttle, a Cham folk performance and the site. Mỹ Sơn is not in Hội An: the board gives its address as Mỹ Sơn village, Thu Bồn commune, Đà Nẵng city.
