Naschmarkt · Wiener Naschmarkt

The Naschmarkt is a municipal food market along the Wienzeile in Vienna, between Getreidemarkt and Kettenbrücke, with produce stalls, farmers' stands and restaurants.

Why go

The Naschmarkt is a market administered by the City of Vienna's market office (Marktamt), on the Wienzeile between Getreidemarkt and Kettenbrücke; the city lists it under the 6th district, and Wikidata places it in both Mariahilf and Wieden. The city's market page (in German) says the stalls sell fruit, vegetables, spices, fish, meat, cheese, dried fruit and other delicacies, and that farmers sell local produce, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, at stalls marked with special table flags. The same page says a market called the Naschmarkt has existed since 1774, at first in the area of today's Wiedner Hauptstraße, and that it opened at its present site in 1916; a large flea market is held beside it on Saturdays, and a Naschmarkt museum, run since 2024 as a branch of the Marktamtsmuseum, has been at the market since 2008. The map point is a representative point on the market strip, not an entrance.
