Palazzo Vecchio
Palazzo Vecchio · Palazzo della Signoria
Palazzo Vecchio, also called Palazzo della Signoria, is the medieval seat of Florence's government on Piazza della Signoria, still the address of the Comune di Firenze and partly open as a museum.
Why go
This record is the palace, with the civic museum inside it; Piazza della Signoria in front of it is not the record. The museum's page says the palace was built between the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries to house the Priori and the Gonfaloniere di Giustizia, the city's highest governing body, and the Comune di Firenze still gives Palazzo Vecchio as its address. The museum page lists separate tickets for the museum and for the Arnolfo Tower and battlement walk, and its Italian version recommends booking online through the city's museum ticket site, bigliettimusei.comune.fi.it. The same page warns that access to some areas of the museum is restricted during a level-3 heat alert, so check it before you go.
