Why go

Parco Ciani is a public park on the lakeshore in the centre of Lugano, run by the city, whose park page names its urban spaces and public greenery service as the contact. The city says the park covers more than 63,000 square metres, reaching the right bank of the Cassarate river, where a belvedere with benches and a small beach looks over the bay, and that its planting includes palms, roses, azaleas, magnolias and camellias. Since 2018 a Garden of the Righteous between the Cantonal Library and the lake has honoured six people from Ticino who helped save many people persecuted for political, racial or religious reasons. The city says the park takes its name from its owners of 1840, who lived in Villa Ciani, and became a municipal park in 1912; Lugano Region says the villa has hosted exhibitions since 1933 and is now used mainly for temporary exhibitions. The city's park page publishes the park's opening hours; they are not carried here.
