Archaeological Site of Pella

Πέλλα · Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Πέλλας

The Archaeological Site of Pella is the excavated part of ancient Pella, capital of the Macedonian kingdom from the end of the 5th century BC, in the Municipality of Pella in Central Macedonia.

Why go

Hellenic Heritage says King Archelaus moved the capital of Macedon from Aigai to Pella at the end of the 5th century BC and that the city grew under Philip II; excavations have revealed only part of the ancient city, including courtyards with peristyles, mosaic floors and part of the agora's foundations. It describes the Palace of Pella on a separate page, on a hill north of the archaeological site, and the Archaeological Museum of Pella as a separate museum; this record is the archaeological site. Hellenic Heritage's official ticket store offers a timed-entry ticket for Pella and a combined ticket that includes a visit to the Palace of Pella.
