Phanom Rung Historical Park

อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พนมรุ้ง

Phanom Rung Historical Park is the Fine Arts Department's park around Prasat Phanom Rung, a sanctuary of Shiva, in Ta Pek subdistrict, Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Buriram Province.

Why go

A Fine Arts Department article from the park says inscriptions found at Prasat Phanom Rung show that its founder, Narendraditya, followed the Pashupata school of Shaivism, and that the inscriptions and carvings show the sanctuary served as a place of practice, meditation and pilgrimage for devotees of Shiva. In August 2021 the park opened a new temporary exhibition in the visitor hall of the Phanom Rung information centre on Phanom Rung, Muang Tam and Plai Bat, which the park's notice described as on the World Heritage Tentative List. This record is the park, with the sanctuary at its core.
