Piazzale Michelangelo is a nineteenth-century square in Florence, where the Viale dei Colli avenues meet, visited as a panoramic terrace over the city.

Why go

This record is the square, which XTOUR types as a viewpoint because it is visited for the view. Florence's official tourism website says the square was designed by the architect Giuseppe Poggi together with the Viale dei Colli, that the works ended in 1875, and that it was first meant to be a monument to Michelangelo. At its centre stands the Monument to Michelangelo, made of bronze copies of his David and of the four Allegories from the Medici Chapels. The same page names the view over the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Croce, the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio, as far as the hills of Fiesole.
