The Ramkhamhaeng National Museum is the Fine Arts Department's national museum in the area of the ancient city of Sukhothai, in Mueang Kao subdistrict of Mueang Sukhothai District.

Why go

The Fine Arts Department says it built the museum in the area of the ancient city between 1960 and 1963, after excavations from 1953 had found many artefacts, and that it opened in January 1964. Most objects on display come from the excavation and restoration of monuments in old Sukhothai and nearby ancient towns; others were transferred from the museum at Wat Ratchathani. The Department says the Lai Sue Thai memorial building, added in 1983, holds the visitor service and the sale of admission tickets. The Department also lists the museum among ten places to see in Sukhothai Historical Park; this record is the museum, not the park.
