Si Satchanalai Historical Park

อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์ศรีสัชนาลัย

Si Satchanalai Historical Park is the Fine Arts Department's park over the old town of Si Satchanalai, on the Yom River in Si Satchanalai District, Sukhothai Province.

Why go

The Fine Arts Department's English page gives the park's announced boundary as 45.1472 square kilometres containing 281 historical sites, among them Wat Chang Lom, Wat Chedi Ched Taew and Wat Nang Phraya in the area of the rampart, Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Chaliang and Wat Chom Chuan at the outer rampart, and further sites on the hills. It says the city centre was later moved to the north side of the older town of Chaliang, about 1.5 kilometres away. The Department says the park was officially opened on 17 November 1990 and inscribed on the World Heritage List with the Sukhothai and Kamphaeng Phet historical parks in 1991, and that its role includes advising visitors on routes within the park. This record is the park, not the World Heritage designation.
