Reformation Wall

Mur des Réformateurs · Monument international de la Réformation

The Reformation Wall is a memorial of about 100 metres against the 16th-century city wall in Geneva's Parc des Bastions, with statues of Guillaume Farel, John Calvin, Theodore Beza and John Knox at its centre.

Why go

This record is the memorial wall, not the Parc des Bastions around it and not the University of Geneva behind it. The City of Geneva's page says the International Monument to the Reformation was built from 1909 for the 400th anniversary of Calvin's birth and the 350th of the founding of the Academy of Geneva, and was inaugurated in 1917. It describes a carved stone rampart with ten statues in all: the four preachers of the central group, each about 5 metres high, and statesmen and protectors of the Reformation from France, the Netherlands, Germany, New England, Great Britain and Hungary on either side, with two blocks engraved with the names of Luther and Zwingli. The City's page also points to the motto 'Post Tenebras Lux' on the wall.
