Geneva Botanical Garden
Jardin Botanique de Genève · Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de Genève
The Geneva Botanical Garden is the City of Geneva's botanical garden and botanical research institution, which its own site says grows more than 11,000 plant species on 28 hectares.
Why go
This record is the garden together with its conservatory, herbarium and library, the institution the garden's own site describes; it is not Ariana Park or the Palais des Nations next to it. The garden's history page says it was founded in 1817 by Augustin-Pyramus de Candolle in the Parc des Bastions and moved to its present, larger site at the turn of the 20th century, in 1904. Its pages describe glasshouses, a rock garden, an arboretum and other themed areas, an herbarium of more than 6 million specimens, and a programme of activities, visits and workshops. The garden gives its postal address as Chemin de l'Impératrice 1, Chambésy-Genève.
