Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is the botanic garden on Inverleith Row, north of Edinburgh's city centre, with rock, woodland and alpine plantings, an arboretum and the restored Palm Houses.

Why go

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is the botanic garden on Inverleith Row, which its visit page places one mile north of the city centre and describes as spanning over 70 acres, with the Rock Garden, the Alpine Houses, the Woodland Garden, the Arboretum, the Chinese Hillside and other collections. It is run by the organisation of the same name, which its own site describes as a Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Scottish Government, a registered charity and an academic institution, and which also runs the Benmore, Dawyck and Logan botanic gardens; this record is the Edinburgh garden only. The visit page names two entrances, the West Gate on Arboretum Place and the East Gate on Inverleith Row. As read on 11 October 2026, it says the restored Palm Houses have reopened with tickets while the other glasshouses stay closed during restoration, and that access to some areas of the garden is restricted.
