Royal Palace of Naples
Palazzo Reale di Napoli
The Royal Palace of Naples is the former royal palace on Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, now a museum with the royal apartments, the Museo della Fabbrica, the Museo Caruso and the palace gardens.
Why go
The Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale) faces Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples; the museum's own page says it was the centre of power in Naples and southern Italy for more than three centuries, and that the court's former spaces now hold a museum and other cultural institutions, including the Biblioteca Nazionale and the Teatro di San Carlo. The museum route takes in the Appartamento di Etichetta (the state apartments), the Museo della Fabbrica on the ground floor, which introduces the history of the building, and the Museo Caruso, with courtyards and gardens around them. The museum's visit-information page says tickets can be bought online or at the museum ticket office without booking, and that because some rooms of the Appartamento di Etichetta may be temporarily closed, visitors should check with the ticket office before buying. The same page says the Giardino Pensile needs its own ticket on top of the palace ticket, and names the Musei Italiani portal and app and the on-site ticket office and totem as the official sales channels. This record is the palace in Naples, not the Royal Palace of Caserta.
