Why go

The Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli is an archaeological museum on Piazza Museo in Naples. Its history page says its core collections are the Farnese collection and the relics from the Vesuvian towns, in a building first put up as a cavalry barracks and later the seat of the University of Naples, and that its paintings moved to the Museum of Capodimonte in 1957. The museum's tickets page says groups of 10 to 30 people must book and buy tickets in advance, and that tickets on free-entry days cannot be booked ahead but are collected at the ticket office on the day. Its home page carries a notice, still shown on 9 October 2026, that from 5 February 2025 the entrance and ticket office were moved temporarily from the main door to the western door for building works, and the museum says some galleries are temporarily closed and publishes a schedule of open rooms.
