Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte

Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte · Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte

The Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte is a national art museum in the Bourbon royal palace on the Capodimonte hill in Naples, with the palace's historic park, the Real Bosco.

Why go

The museum occupies the Reggia di Capodimonte, a royal palace begun in 1738 for Charles of Bourbon to house the art collection he had inherited from his mother, Elisabetta Farnese. According to italia.it, the palace opened as a museum in 1957 after the medieval and modern art collections of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples were moved there; the archaeological museum's own history page also dates the transfer of its paintings to Capodimonte to 1957. italia.it describes the Farnese Gallery, the historic apartment and a contemporary art section, and says the palace and the surrounding Real Bosco became a single complex over time; the institution gives its address as Via Miano 2. This record is the museum, and its map point is the museum building, not a park gate. XTOUR could not read the museum's own site on 9 October 2026 (the connection was refused), so no entry or booking rules are given here.
