Ponta Delgada's municipal tourism site counts the Sete Cidades volcanic complex, with its blue and green lakes set in a caldera, among the municipality's natural heritage. The same site lists the Complexo Ambiental da Lagoa das Sete Cidades, a park shop on the west shore of Lagoa Azul that promotes the São Miguel Natural Park and where, among other things, the Lagoa das Sete Cidades can be interpreted. Wikidata records the lake as a volcanic crater lake with Lagoa Azul as one of its parts. This record is the lake; the caldera, the village of Sete Cidades, the viewpoints above it and the walking trails are not part of it, and its map point is a general location within the lake, not a viewpoint or a place to reach the shore.
