The authority says an Islamic museum first opened in the Heritage Area in 1996 and reopened under the current name on 6 June 2008 in the converted Souq Al Majarrah building, which had opened as a souq in 1987. Its galleries cover the principles of Islam, the scientific achievements of Muslim scholars, and Islamic arts and crafts from the 1st to the 14th century AH, with a gallery for temporary exhibitions.
