Museo Archeologico dell'Alto Adige · Südtiroler Archäologiemuseum

The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology on Via Museo in Bolzano is the museum that displays Ötzi, the Copper Age glacier mummy found in 1991.

Why go

The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology at Via Museo 43 in Bolzano devotes its permanent exhibition, on three floors, to Ötzi the Iceman, a Copper Age mummy found on 19 September 1991, with his clothing and equipment. The museum says the mummy itself is viewed through a window into his refrigerated cell in a separate area. Its FAQ says the museum can be visited with or without a reservation: a reservation is made online, gives entry at the booked time and priority admission, is paid for on site at the ticket desk, and may be cancelled if you arrive late. The FAQ also says reservations for individuals and families can only be made on the museum's website, and that guided tours are requested in writing in advance. Hours and prices are set by the museum and change, so check its site before you go.
