Taman Negara is a national park managed by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN). Tourism Pahang describes it as Malaysia's largest protected forest, 4,343 km² across Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, first set aside as a wildlife reserve in 1925 and called King George V Park before it was renamed. The park headquarters and most facilities are at Kuala Tahan, where the Tembeling and Tahan rivers meet. PERHILITAN requires every visitor to get an entry permit, with a separate camera licence. It lists a 283 m canopy walkway about 45 m above the ground, wildlife hides, river trips through rapids, visits to an Orang Asli settlement, and the seven-day climb of Gunung Tahan, which Tourism Pahang gives as 2,187 m.
PERHILITAN says Kuala Tahan is about 68 km, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes, by bus or taxi from Jerantut. Tourism Pahang adds that many visitors instead take a boat from Kuala Tembeling Jetty near Jerantut to Kuala Tahan. Every visitor needs an entry permit.
