Why go

Ullen Sentalu is a museum of Javanese culture whose own site says it was inaugurated on 1 March 1997 by Sri Paduka Paku Alam VIII, then Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and that its name is an acronym of the Javanese phrase 'Ulating Blencong Sejatining Tataraning Lumaku', 'light is the guide on life's path'. The museum's visit page offers visits as tours led by its educators, with several options: the Adiluhung Mataram tour through paintings, photographs, poems and batik of the Mataram courts, the Skriptorium tour on the history of Java and the archipelago, the Vorstenlanden tour, and an English-language guided tour. It says group visits must be reserved by telephone. The museum's address is Jalan Boyong, Kaliurang, Sleman, in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, outside Yogyakarta city.
