Why go

Zelve-Paşabağları lies on the Göreme-Avanos road in Avanos district, Nevşehir Province, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Ministry describes Zelve as three valleys settled from at least the pre-Iconoclastic period through the 20th century, with a mill, wineries, mosques and monasteries, and names the Balıklı, Üzümlü and Church of the Holy Cross as its most significant churches; the village was inhabited until 1952. Paşabağları, formerly called the Valley of the Priests, is about 1 km along the same road and is known for multi-headed fairy chimneys, one of which the Ministry says holds a chapel built in the name of Saint Simeon, a 5th-century ascetic. The Ministry's list of temporarily closed units shows Zelve's Balıklı and Üzümlü churches closed since February 2024 for strengthening and restoration work, with no reopening date given.

Getting there

The Ministry gives the Zelve address as Aktepe Köyü, on the Göreme-Avanos road, in Avanos district. It places Paşabağları about 1 km further along the same road (Wikidata Q133612406 puts it roughly 1.1 km from the Zelve entrance, consistent with the Ministry's figure), but does not publish a boundary or a single combined coordinate for the site — Paşabağları is not treated here as an access point of Zelve, since it is a second, separately reached location under the same ticket rather than a way into Zelve itself.

Through the year

Operating hours extend to 20:00 from 1 May to 1 October 2026 under the Ministry's tourism-season schedule, reverting to a shorter winter schedule after 1 October according to an operator-portal listing. The Balıklı and Üzümlü churches have been closed for restoration since February 2024 with no announced reopening; this is a restoration closure, not a seasonal one, but it currently limits what is open year-round regardless of season.

Third-party summaries describe slippery ground and rockfall warning signs at the site; this was not independently confirmed on an operator page read today and is not asserted as an operator statement. Follow any on-site signage and staff instructions.

Accessibility

The Ministry publishes no step-free, stroller or wheelchair statement. It does warn, in its own visitor text, of slippery ground and rockfall risk signage at the site — a safety fact rather than an accessibility one. No age or height rule was found.
