Fortress
A hilltop citadel above the city. The Ministry's provincial directorate dates its origins to the 10th century, with rebuilds in 1153 and 1579 after its destruction in 1386. No primary source states its hours or fee. It has its own place page.

The Ministry's muze.gov.tr lists it as open, free, 08:00–17:00 with the ticket office closing at 16:30, and closed on Mondays; the Ministry's turkishmuseums.com listing gives no Monday closure, so check before a Monday visit.

Church, now a mosque
Built in 932–937 by the Bagratid king Abbas at the foot of the castle, according to the Ministry's provincial directorate, and now an active mosque. No visiting hours or rules are published.
Historic townscape
The Ministry's provincial directorate and the Kars Governorship describe about 190 registered buildings from 1890–1917 in dressed basalt on a grid plan in the Yusufpaşa, Ortakapı and Cumhuriyet districts, including the second governor's mansion where the Treaty of Kars was signed in 1921.
Historic bridge
A three-arched basalt bridge built in 1579 and rebuilt in 1725, according to the Ministry's provincial directorate.
