Abasha River Waterfall

აბაშის ჩანჩქერი · Abasha Waterfall · Abashi Waterfall · River Abasha Waterfall Natural Monument

The protected waterfall at the source of the Abasha river in Martvili Municipality, falling off Late Cretaceous limestone on the flank of the Askhi massif into a round plunge hole about 12 metres across.

Why go

This is the fall at the head of the Abasha river, a protected natural monument, and not the Kaghu waterfall or the other cascades near Balda further down the same valley. The Agency of Protected Areas gives its height as 30 metres (the national tourism administration says about 40), dropping off Late Cretaceous limestone into a hole about 12 metres across that the water has worn out at the point of fall, with dense boxwood on the surrounding slopes. Two smaller falls run beside the main one. The Agency of Protected Areas describes the approach as a dirt road through forest from Second Balda, about 5 km away, which may take an hour or more (checked 2026-10-01).
