Why go
Balda is the same river and the same kind of limestone as Martvili Canyon downstream, without the ticket desk: the protected-areas agency describes no trail, boats or visitor centre, so arrive expecting a natural site rather than a managed one. The gorge is tight — five to ten metres across and up to thirty deep over roughly 1.4 kilometres. It lies about twenty minutes' drive from Martvili town and a little over a kilometre from Kaghu Waterfall, so the two fit into a single outing with Martvili Canyon.
