Alhambra

The Alhambra is the Nasrid palace and fortress complex on the Sabika hill in Granada, managed by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife.

Why go

The Alhambra is the walled palace and fortress complex on the Sabika hill in Granada, facing the Albaicín, run by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, the body in charge of its protection, administration and conservation. The Patronato's history pages say it was built up gradually: the Alcazaba, the Nasrid palaces of Comares under Yusuf I and of the Lions under Muhammad V, and, after the conquest, the Palace of Charles V, begun in 1526. Its visit pages say the general ticket covers the whole complex, including the gardens, and fixes a date and a time for the Nasrid Palaces, which can be entered only at that time; its FAQ says a visitor who is not at the Nasrid Palaces entrance at the time on the ticket is not admitted to them. The FAQ also says tickets are personal and non-transferable and must be shown with an identity document, and it lists the ticket office at the access pavilion, subject to availability for the current day. The Generalife has its own XTOUR record; this record is the whole complex, the Nasrid Palaces included, and its map point lies inside the walled enclosure, not at the ticket office or a gate.
