Royal Chapel of Granada

Capilla Real de Granada · Capilla Real

The Royal Chapel of Granada is the funerary chapel of the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon, beside Granada Cathedral.

Why go

The Royal Chapel of Granada (Capilla Real) is the funerary chapel the Catholic Monarchs founded by royal warrant of 13 September 1504; the chapel's own site says it holds the remains of Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, of Juana I and Philip I, and of Prince Miguel. The Archdiocese's ticket site says it was built between 1505 and 1517 as an annex to the new cathedral, but that the two buildings are independent today; this record is the chapel, and Granada Cathedral has its own record. The chapel's visit page sends visitors to Tickets Granada Cristiana, the Archdiocese's official ticket site. That site's chapel page says tourist visits are not allowed during liturgical acts, photography and video are not allowed inside, and groups of seven or more with a guide must use radio guides. The chapel's address is Calle Oficios, and its map point is the chapel building, not its door.
