Alte Pinakothek

The Alte Pinakothek is the Bavarian State Painting Collections' museum of European painting from the 14th to the 18th century, on Barer Straße in Munich.

Why go

The Bavarian State Painting Collections (Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen), which run it, say the Alte Pinakothek holds European paintings from the 14th to the 18th century and shows more than 700 of them, among them works by Dürer and Rubens, Rogier van der Weyden and Memling, Raphael and Titian, Altdorfer and Cranach, Rembrandt and Frans Hals. The collections' museums page, read on 9 October 2026, says the Neue Pinakothek's gallery is closed for renovation and that a selection of 19th-century masterpieces is shown meanwhile on the ground floor of the Alte Pinakothek and in the Sammlung Schack. The museum's visit page gives its address as Barer Straße 27 with the entrance on Theresienstraße. This record is the Alte Pinakothek, not the Neue Pinakothek or the Pinakothek der Moderne.
