The Frauenkirche (Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau) in Munich is the Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, a late-Gothic brick hall church begun in 1468.

Why go

The cathedral's own site says the present church was begun in 1468 under the master builder Jörg von Halspach, built in exposed brick and completed in 20 years, consecrated in 1494, and given the domed caps on its towers around 1525; it was raised to cathedral in 1821, after the newly founded Archdiocese of Munich and Freising needed a church for its archbishop (translated from the German pages). Bombs in the Second World War destroyed the historic vault and the remaining furnishings while the towers stood, and the church was rebuilt and later renovated from 1989 to 1994. The cathedral's visiting page says sightseeing is not possible during services and at admission times (Einlasszeiten), and that tickets for the south tower are sold in the cathedral shop inside the church, with online booking through its partner München Tourismus. This record is the Munich cathedral, not the Frauenkirche in Dresden.
