Museum of the Asian-African Conference

Museum Konperensi Asia Afrika

The Museum of the Asian-African Conference (Museum Konperensi Asia Afrika) is the museum of the 1955 Bandung Conference in Gedung Merdeka, the building where the conference met, at Jalan Asia Afrika 65 in Bandung.

Why go

The museum's own site says it was set up in Gedung Merdeka in Bandung, where the Asian-African Conference of 18 to 24 April 1955 was held, and was inaugurated by President Soeharto on 24 April 1980 for the conference's 25th anniversary. It is a technical unit of Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coordinated by the Directorate of Public Diplomacy, and describes itself as a museum of the history of Indonesia's foreign policy. The museum's registration page takes visit reservations for a chosen date, says a reservation is valid only for the date and time booked and that the confirmation must be shown to staff on entering, and says group reservations must be made at least seven days ahead. The same page allows photos and video without flash and says visitors may not eat, drink or chew gum in the museum area. This record is the museum, not the 1955 conference and not the Gedung Merdeka hall as a building.
