Berlin Cathedral

Berliner Dom

Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) is an Evangelical (Protestant) church beside the Lustgarten in Berlin's Mitte district, inaugurated in 1905, which holds the Hohenzollern family crypt.

Why go

The cathedral describes its present building as Neo-Renaissance; its history page says the church, designed by Julius Carl Raschdorff, replaced a predecessor torn down in 1893 and was inaugurated on 27 February 1905, and that the cathedral's history on the Spree Island began in 1465, although it was never a bishop's seat. The cathedral says the Hohenzollern crypt in the cathedral holds 91 burials from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th, and that it reopened on 1 March 2026 after construction and renovation work. Its dome page says a walk around the dome, 50 metres up, is included in the tour, and its tickets page says tickets for a visit are sold in the cathedral's ticket shop. The cathedral holds daily services and prayers, which it says are open to all people looking to engage with the Christian faith. This record is the present church with its crypt and dome walk, not its predecessor buildings.
