Berlin TV Tower

Berliner Fernsehturm

The Berlin TV Tower (Berliner Fernsehturm) is the television tower by Alexanderplatz in Berlin's Mitte district, with an observation deck 203 metres above the city.

Why go

The tower's operator says the GDR government had the TV Tower built at its present location in the 1960s, to an original design by the architect Hermann Henselmann, with a sphere meant to recall the Soviet Sputnik satellites. Visitors go up to an observation deck at a height of 203 metres, where the Sphere Bar is also located; the Sphere restaurant in the tower takes its own reservations. The operator's FAQ says tickets are bound to a time slot and give access only during the booked slot, that every visitor passes a security check with a metal detector and a bag inspection, that larger luggage may not be taken onto the tower, and that children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The FAQ says the entrance is opposite Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station. This record is the tower, typed as a viewpoint for its observation deck; it is not Alexanderplatz or the open space around the tower's base.
